Is ‘Viking Wolf’, a Netflix movie, based on a true story?

For years, werewolves or werewolves have been one of the most used monsters in literature, movies, and other cultural products. Even for the Netflix series “Wednesday”, the Enid actress received special training for werewolves.

There are various stories that tell of its possible origin, and they go back to different places and times. The Vikings have their own story about this and the “Viking Wolf” may have been inspired by it.

It is the story called “Völsunga saga”, a text from the Middle Ages that contains the first written record of the appearance of werewolves in Viking literature.

It should be noted that “Viking Wolf” is not inspired by a true story as such, since werewolves do not exist and are only mythological figures.

However, the Netflix movie is based on a legend about these creatures that has been told from generation to generation in Scandinavian culture.

The legend that inspired “Viking Wolf,” a Netflix movie

The “Völsunga saga”, the legend of Sigmund and Sinfjotli, is one of the most popular and ancient Norse stories about werewolves. It tells the life of a father and his son, who on a trip to the forest come across a cabin where they find two enchanted wolf skins.

When they wear them they become wolves and acquire the abilities of these animals: cunning, courage and great strength.

Sigmund and Sinfjotli wander the forest together, attacking anyone who gets in their way. After a while they decide to split up and come to an agreement: if one of them finds more than seven men to devour, they must call the other.

However, Sinfjotli breaks the deal and murders 11 men at once. For this reason, Sigmund seriously injures his own son.

In this incident, he briefly regains consciousness and remembers that they were both originally human. So they manage to get rid of the wolf skins and burn them so that no one else can use them.

Since the ending of the movie “Viking Wolf” is left unfinished, as Thale’s mother was unable to kill her own daughter (who became a werewolf), it is possible that he will save her in a sequel of the movie, as Sigmund did. with Sinfjotli.
