The president will meet Joe Biden for the first time to discuss the defense of democracy and the fight against extremism
WASHINGTON DC – President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva arrived around 5:30 pm local time at Blair House in Washington DC, where he will stay for tomorrow’s meeting with the president of the United States, Joe Biden. He hasn’t spoken to the press.
Lula arrived accompanied by the first lady, Janja da Silva. For today there is no official agenda and the president must stay at Blair House, a residence offered to important guests visiting the US capital.
In addition to Lula and Janja, the ministerial entourage also arrived at Blair House. It is made up of ministers Mauro Vieira, of Foreign Affairs; Fernando Haddad, from the Farm; Marina Silva, of the Environment; Anielle Franco, of Racial Equality; the special adviser, Ambassador Celso Amorim, and the executive secretary of the Ministry of Development and Trade, Marcio Elias Rosa.
The engagements will only begin tomorrow, 10. The culmination will be Lula’s first meeting with the head of the White House since he took office in January.
On the agenda, defense of democracy and the fight against extremism after the coup plotters in the United States and Brazil; the environmental agenda, focused on climate change and the protection of the Amazon; economic issues such as the supply chain, as well as global issues such as the war in Ukraine. The leaders are expected to meet this Friday at 3.30pm local time.
In addition to the meeting with the head of the White House, Lula has a busy agenda that includes meetings with American Democrats, such as, for example, Senator Bernie Sander.
