Dwayne Johnson owes his career to Brendan Fraser: 21 years later he returned the favor

While Dwayne Johnson is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood right now, Brendan Fraser, with his Oscar nomination for Best Actor, is having a career resurgence.

The fact that Dwayne Johnson is one of the highest grossing stars today is because of the confidence that Brendan Fraser gave him when he started his acting career after being a professional wrestler.

‘The Rock’ has always remembered how Fraser gave him the push he needed to become an actor, so now he didn’t hesitate to show his support.

  • Brendan Fraser also stars in The movie “Risky Heist”, which is available for free on ViX.

In 2001, ‘The Rock’ made the transition from professional wrestler to actor with his first role in ‘The Mummy Returns’ (which you can watch on ViX+), where he played the final nemesis in the film, starring Brendan Fraser as Rick O. Connell.

But Johnson revealed to MTV News in October 2022 that he owed it to Fraser himself to land his first role, because as the star of the franchise he had to approve the actor who would play the Scorpion King.

“When they came to me and asked me to be in ‘The Mummy Returns’, that was Brendan’s film. He had to give it the green light. I had no idea. We had never met. We hadn’t even spoken on the phone. And what our director, Stephen Somers, told me was, “Brendan loves this idea and he’s so happy you’re in the film.”

Although Brendan Fraser revealed in January 2023 on “The Drew Barrymore Show” that he never met Dwayne Johnson face-to-face when they recorded “The Mummy Returns”, he gave him his vote of confidence as the Scorpion King.

Brendan Fraser’s trust was forever in the memory of ‘The Rock’, so when news broke that Fraser’s role in ‘The Whale’ was worthy of applause, Johnson was among the first to congratulate him.
