Rec-Beat: International attractions promise to shake Recife

Marked by a diverse line-up, the Rec-Beat Festival announced concerts by Purahéi Soul, Simon Winsé, Kizaba, Djely Tapa and Banda O.

With Carnival getting closer and closer, the parties are already starting and, with that in mind, the Rec Beat Festival announced five new international attractions in its 27th edition. Marked by the plurality of sounds and genres, the event will take place between February 18th and 21st.

One of the most eclectic festivals in the country, the rec beat it has already taken more than 600 shows to Cais da Alfândega, in Recife. In its history, the free event has received more than 3 million visitors, in addition to artists such as Emicidal, Sky, Erasmo Carlos, Gaby Amarantos, johnny hooker, zombie nation, linkeramong many others.

Aiming to create a different experience at each edition, the festival has already confirmed several national artists in its 2023 edition, including the multi-artist Getúlio Abelha (EC), the funk artist Deize Tigrona (RJ) and the DJ and producer Mu540 (SP). Even more, the rec beat announced that five new international attractions in Recife will also be present at the event.

Rec-Beat’s international attractions

One of the first confirmed groups, the duo Purahei Soul comes directly from Paraguay to reinvent traditional music singing in English, Spanish and Guarani. In jazz and blues metrics, artists sing about Latin American folkloric narratives.

Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Simon Winse, in turn, arrives laden with instruments such as the kora, n’goni, bow and Fulani flute. Inspired by rhythms from Burkina Faso, his country of origin, the artist still mixes his works with jazz fusion and blues.

Representing the plurality of rhythms on the African continent, Congolese kizaba Based in Montreal, he is one of the pioneers of Afro-Congolese pop rock. Inspired by his ancestors, he mixes sounds of Congolese soukous, afrobeat, house music and R&B.

Already the singer djely tapa, born in Kayes, in western Mali, will bring the vocal art of the griots to Recife, while mixing tradition, blues and electronic music. elected World Music Revelation from Rádio-Canada in 2019, the artist will present her debut album, barokan (2019).

Finally, the British band O. promises to expand the possibilities of its instruments, transforming the rec beat in an experimental space. Transiting between jazz and hip-hop, the group usually improvises in their presentations and will perform a local immersion with the DJs Dolores, Henrique Albino, Lucas dos Prazeres, Parrô It is Yuri Queiroga.
