The booming digital market encourages pop icons to create music for children

Saulo, Tuyo and Rodrigo Sha debut in the fastest growing content segment in the country

For the first time in their careers, Saulo Fernandes from Bahia, Tuyo from Paraná and Rodrigo Sha from Rio de Janeiro experimented with creating songs for children. The unanimity, as well as in the quality of the three recorded EPs, lies in the satisfaction they show for the creative challenge in the genre proposed by the British label Platoon. The EPs can be heard on all digital platforms.

In addition to music, the three are part of a constantly leading segment among the fastest growing in the Brazilian digital universe, that of children’s content.

Data intelligence platform Winnin released a report during the pandemic titled “A Story of Learning to Sing: How to Be Relevant in Kids’ Online Universe?”, which shows both the growth and potential of the market. Among the topics addressed that generate the most interest and successes, musical leads, followed by Sketches, Challenges, Reacts and Do-It-Yourself.

On YouTube alone, for example, among the top 10 most viewed videos ever at the time, four were for children and three of those are songs. The rationale is that children have no problem consuming the same content over and over again, as most adults do. In addition, music has more natural flexibility for repetition and is perfect for integration and interaction between parents and children.

The British label Platoon, responsible for releasing world music icons such as Billie Eilish and Jorja Smith, is developing a special project to expand the repertoire of children’s songs in languages other than English. Thus, Saulo, Tuyo and Rodrigo Sha were the Brazilian artists chosen to release singles in Portuguese, translating their unique musical styles into lullabies and children’s songs for a new generation.

Saulo, famous as the lead singer of Banda Eva, has lowered the BPM of the music he routinely composes and is reminiscent of old children’s songs from the era when established MPB artists followed this bucolic route, such as Chico Buarque and Vinicius de Moraes. For the Tuyo trio, the inspiration came from making music as if they were talking to a friend’s seven-year-old daughter. And Rodrigo Sha found his inspiration and test pilot, his one-year-old son Oskar, at home. And her song “Meu Baconé” won a lyric video from cartoonist Rafaella Tuma.
