Salvador’s secretary of culture wants carnival to have “a greater impact on people’s lives”

The opening ceremony of the revelry took place on Thursday 16 in the capital of Bahia

The Carnival of Salvador officially began this Thursday 16. At the head of the Trio Pipoca, Ivete Sangalo kicked off the traditional parade of the trios, which travel the streets near Farol da Barra, bringing hundreds of people into a frenzy. The opening ceremony was also attended by the mayor of the capital of Bahia, Bruno Reis (PT), the secretary of Culture, Pedro Tourinho, and King Momo, Alan Nery, the figure responsible for leading the revelry.

The wait for the resumption of the carnival, after two years of isolation due to the covid-19 pandemic, is great. “We are very happy with the result and personally I am very happy to be closer to my city,” said Tourinho. For him, the party is also an opportunity to “make an impact on people’s lives”.

The secretary, who has previously worked as a publicist and cultural producer, also gave some advice on what he deems necessary for a song to become a carnival hit. “Nowadays there are two factors, the first is, of course, the music is good, it stays in people’s heads, it’s that bubblegum song. And the other is to get to the network, have the little dance [que faça sucesso]”, he concluded.
