Alan Nery, 35, received the keys to the capital of Bahia, officially starting the spree
Respect and joy. These are the wishes of Rei Momo of the Salvador carnival, Alan Nery, 35, for the revelry of 2023, a long-awaited party after the two years of isolation caused by the covid-19 pandemic. The party officially began on Thursday 16, with a ceremony that saw the participation of the mayor of Salvador, Bruno Reis (PT), and the singer Ivete Sangalo.
“I know that everyone wants to go to the square”, said Nery, visibly excited during the opening ceremony, but, he points out that Carnival “can’t lack joy and respect”.
As hundreds of people gathered to sing and dance to the sound of Ivete Sangalo, with Trio Pipoca, at Farol da Barra, Rei Momo didn’t hide her emotion “I am super anxious for this moment and I will command [o carnaval] with great joy,” he said after receiving the keys to Salvador’s capital from the mayor, officially marking the start of the festivities.
For Bruno Reis, the return of the street carnival is a moment of joy that should “historically” mark the celebrations. Joy is proportional to anxiety. “It’s my first [carnaval] as mayor there is a lot of anxiety”, he said before emphasizing that from now on Rei Momo is in charge of the party. “The key is here with Rei Momo, he will be in charge of the revelry”, he concluded.
