Zak Starkey’s opinion of his father, Ringo Starr, has changed over time
Zak Starkeyson of Ringo Starr, revealed that he did not consider his father a “great drummer” when he was younger. Furthermore, in the book Ringo: With a Little Helpthe also drummer (who plays with The Who) stated that he did not want to be in the beatle’s shadow.
“To be honest, being a son of Ringo it’s the biggest bummer of my life. I’m always mentioned as Ringo’s son, they always include him in everything I do… If I become successful, I don’t want to live in my father’s shadow,” he stated in the book published in 2015 (via TMDQA).
He joined the chorus of those questioning the techniques of Ringo: “My old man is good at keeping time — he’s one of the best at it — but I never considered him a great drummer. I kind of rebelled against that as a teenager.”
Over time, however, zak he began to see his father’s work with different eyes and declared: “I’ve said some pretty stupid things. But honestly, it’s great to be Ringo’s son! He’s the greatest drummer alive, in my opinion.”
