Vocalist and guitarist, Max Cavalera said he doesn’t need to reunite with the band that projected him worldwide and explained his reasons
O Grave became the most popular Brazilian heavy metal band of all time with its classic line-up, bringing Max Cavalera on vocals and guitar, Andreas Kisser on the guitar, Paulo Jr. on the bass and Igor Cavalera on the battery. This configuration lasted until 1996, when max decided to leave the group.
Since then, both the vocalist and his former band have moved on. Still, there are those who ask for a return of the Grave classic, which would also bring Igor back, as he left the project in 2006.
In an interview with Rock Interview Series (via blabbermouth), max opposed this possibility. The musician declared that he wouldn’t need to do anything of the sort, especially since he’s satisfied with his current work.
“I’m really busy right now with all the projects. I have so many: soulfly being my main band, but also the Go Ahead and Die with my son Igor and the Killer Be Killed. And I’m already playing a bunch of old stuff with my brother. That, to me, fills the void anyway. I don’t think about it. I don’t need to do anything like that right now.”
Fan support was also cited as crucial for max continue to focus on your current projects, especially the soulflywho released a new album, Totemin 2022.
“The fans love all the things I’ve been doing. It doesn’t make sense, really. I haven’t thought about it for a long time. My main thing now is the soulfly. I love that the soulfly be stronger and stronger with each record. I look forward to writing the next one.”
Iggor Cavalera on returning to Sepultura
In another interview, also recent, but at Mike NelsonShow, Igor Cavalera revealed that he had no intention of meeting with the Grave. For him, the recovery that really interests him is with maxwith whom he had projects again at the end of the 2000s.
“Gotta be honest with you, man. The reunion, in my opinion, is me and my brother — that’s the person I want to unite with. So for me, if the other stuff doesn’t happen, I can’t be too upset about it. Of course, it would be awesome, but the real reunion for me is just me and my brother being together. That’s what makes me happy.”
Paulo Jr does not close the doors
In 2020, Paulo Jr. demonstrated not to completely close the doors to a meeting of the Grave classic. During podcast interview Scars and Guitarshowever, he declared that it would need to happen naturally.
“I don’t know about the future, but right now… I don’t want to force a situation that doesn’t exist anymore. If it ever happens, it must come naturally. However, it doesn’t bother me, I don’t think about it so much anymore. It happened 20 years ago. Go ahead. You can’t make everyone happy. The best thing to do is learn from your mistakes and try to improve in the future.”
In addition to Paul It is Andreas KisserO Grave count with Derrick Green on vocals and Eloy Casagrande on the battery. Blockmost recent album, was made available in 2020.
