The Rolling Stones guitarist isn’t exactly the most disciplined musician, but even he was once annoyed by the Guns N’ Roses lead singer.
Keith Richards is one of the greatest “bad guys” in rock history. History proves how the guitarist of Rolling Stones never made a point of following rules or acting in the right way. But even he was once bothered by what he considered a legitimate carelessness of Axl Rosevocalist of Armas e Rosas.
The situation, which earned the already veteran artist a scolding at the then young artist, occurred due to one of the famous delays of rose to start a show. On that occasion, he would participate in a presentation by stones sometime in the early 1990s.
Who tells the story Matt Sorumformer drummer of guns. In an interview with the podcast of Dennis Miller (via Ultimate Guitar), the musician said that Keith had one of his famous “night outs” before the event; nevertheless, she arrived at the appointed time. This fact was brought to light when demanding responsibility from the singer.
“axl showed up late to hang out with the stonesI think it was at the Coliseum or somewhere like that. Keith Richards came up to him and said, ‘I slept on top of a chandelier last night and I got there on time, what’s your excuse?’”
Not satisfied, Richards he added, saying that punctuality is a must for anyone in the music world – including rock music.
“He said to axl: ‘if you’re going to be in a rock and roll band, the least you should do is get here at 9pm, you know what I mean?’”
Was Axl Rose’s tardiness an advantage?
Interestingly, the same Matt Sorum already praised the delays of Axl Rose as a kind of advantage for the concerts of the Armas e Rosas. A billboardthe drummer, who was part of the group in the 1990s, said that the anxiety created around the beginning of the presentation made fans and even bandmates more anxious, which yielded a collective catharsis from the first note played.
“I’m in the dressing room, we’re two hours late and I’m frustrated. As soon as you hit the stage, it’s totally rock and roll. Before going up, we were dejected, as there was a lot of frustration, anger, anxiety. But that all took the show to another level. The audience was electric, because they were angry because of our delay. But as soon as we got onstage… some nights just caught fire.”
