In 2022, more than 900,000 Metallica vinyl records were produced
metallica, one of metal’s most popular bands, has announced that it will buy a vinyl factory to meet demand. A Furnace Record Pressinglocated in the city of Alexandria, in the state of Virginia (United States), will be responsible for pressing the band’s records.
The plan, in addition to meeting the high demand, is to launch special boxes for fans, considering that there will be more production control, as announced by billboard. The company, known for its high quality pressings, already worked with the band – including on the most recent version of black albumwith a double LP of the studio disc, three live LPs, 14 CDs and six DVDs.
In 2022, 902.5 thousand vinyls were produced metallicawith half of this amount destined for the US market. James Hetfieldvocalist and guitarist, declared that the deal is “great for the metallica and especially for the fans. Buyers will continue to have access to high quality discs in the future.”
In the last two years, the band was among the 10 best-selling artists in the format in the United States. There were 387,000 sold last year and 337,000 in 2021. The fact becomes even more impressive when considering that the band has not released an original album since 2016.
The growth in sales follows an industry trend, pointed out by the annual report of RIAA (US Recording Industry Association). In 2022, vinyl sales surpassed CDs for the first time in 36 years. There were approximately 41 million vinyl records against 33 million CDs.
