When she was singing in a killing light and stage setting she already proved she had, her show had less of an impact, but it confirmed her as the top pop music artist in the country.
Ludmilla, who grew up in funk basements, made her climb to pop stardom with a lot of sweat. After being underrated as a side attraction sunsetFrom Rock in Rio 2022was once again part of a sort of second echelon of Lollapalooza. The production never says, but everyone knows it: whoever sings in the sunlight loses the light of the scene. So much so that, singing this Saturday at Lolla, Lud, despite arriving with his beautiful voice, in perfect harmony and without listening, was unable to cause a third of the visual and scenographic impact that he showed at Sunset.
There is no other way, Ludmilla is the best pop singer in the country. And for technical reasons. Woman from the suburbs of Rio, Beyoncé’s former cover, she is also an artist. And singers aren’t always artists, just as artists aren’t always singers. Some can’t be one thing or the other. Rarely, Lud is both. His voice is studied in R&B melismas, his timbre is beautiful, his vibrato is precise, his tuning is the envy of the MPB greats, he doesn’t sing with playback (hallelujah!) and his spectrum range reaches where the like do not enter.

It is not known what is missing for this validation. The woman who just needs to kill Anitta out of spite has 2 billion streams on Spotify and 3.3 billion on YouTube. You put the audience in the palm of your hand, you have managed to calibrate the language well to accommodate the “Brazilian family” who watch Globoplay and already have an 11-year career. The only attraction to be at the two biggest festivals of the year, Lolla and The city, which will be in September, Lud still gets there. On September 7th it will be on the Skyline Stage, the main event, but at the opening of Maroon 5. One more step. Lud, swallow it, he deserves the best.
