Wisconsin school bans rainbow-themed songs, including Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton track
An elementary school teacher in Wisconsin, in the United States, revealed that the partnership between Miley Cyrus It is Dolly Parton was banned from her students’ concert. Other rainbow-themed tracks such as “rainbowland,” were vetoed.
According to People, Melissa Tempel exposed the situation promoted by the school board on social media and plans to take the case to the Waukesha County School District.
“My students were very excited to sing ‘rainbowland‘ at our spring concert, but that was vetoed by our school administration. When will this end?” tempel asked on Twitter.
The institution’s management stated that it opted for the veto, as “the music could be controversial” according to the policy of controversial items in the classroom. The statute states that controversial subjects are any topics that “cause intense public debate, disagreements; that may have political, social or personal impacts on students.”
Tempel even published the verses of “rainbowland” to expose the absence of any controversial topic. She believes that the popularity of Parton between drag queens and the LGBTQIA+ community contributed to the school’s decision.
