We’ve rounded up the Canadian artist’s most famous concert cancellations in an infamous list that Lollapalooza 2023 has just joined

Last-minute cancellation of the drake at the Lollapalooza Brazil 2023 It may have taken a lot of people by surprise. The festival announced the replacement of the singer by Skrillex on Sunday’s line-up (26) – a few hours after Drake appeared at a nightclub, accompanied by 50 Cent, leaving fans without much explanation about the real reason for the absence. But those who follow the musician know that, in addition to the controversies that surround him, cancellations are not uncommon for the Canadian either.

To be fair, we’re not talking about when he canceled part of his 2016 tour due to an ankle injury; or when he couldn’t perform at the Young Money Reunion in Toronto after contracting Covid-19 in 2018; neither, and even less, when he had to be absent due to the funeral of Takeoff, from the trio Migos, in 2022. However, the musician adds an infamous history when it comes to last-minute cancellations, a list of infamy in which Lollapalooza Brazil 2023 has just joined. Below, we have collected the most famous cases.

Last minute

In 2013, when he was just 26 years old, Drake canceled a performance at the Fargo Center, in the US state of Philadelphia, due to “technical problems” involving the assembly of a suspended walkway there. The problem here was that the announcement was made when fans were already in the supposedly unsafe venue, leaving those present angry and calling it, at the time, “unprofessional” (via Daily Mail).

No meet, no greet

Already in July 2016, when I left for the summer sixteen tour, Drake announced a different cancellation: he would no longer participate in meetings with fans, the famous meet and greet, due to “logistical problems”. On the occasion, fans who bought the meeting ticket had the option to keep them, gaining the right to merchandising from the musician: a foam glove, a pen, a vehicle air freshener, a bag, pins and patches, as well as a disposable camera. and a frame of the musician. Who could complain?

bad sushi

In March 2017, fans protested after the rapper failed to show up to a concert on the tour. Boy Meets World. According to NME, he allegedly ate “rotten sushi”, causing “serious food poisoning”. The problem? It was the third cancellation in three months. The reaction came in the form of boos and glasses of drink thrown on stage while the promoter of the show announced the new absence.

apology video

In 2018, the musician was also confirmed to open the toronto international film festival, the Toronto Film Festival, but ended up canceling (again) at the last minute. The justification presented by a video was conflicts in the schedule – despite not having another official presentation scheduled for that night -, and ended up leading the rapper to suffer new criticism online (via Narcity).

Also in 2018, a few weeks later, he would also announce three other cancellations in the United States, of performances scheduled in the cities of Denver, Colorado, Salt Lake City, Utah, and St Paul, Minnesota (via Narcity), due to technical problems. .
