If you’re one of those who think that nothing new has happened in rock since Nirvana, it’s time for another modern playlist to update your soundtrack, with folk ballads, punk rock and even folk punk. The selection brings together 50 recent clip releases from the B-side on YouTube, with an emphasis on what’s new for March, but also tracks from the beginning of the year that fit into the continuity of the playlist.
This time the eclectic mix also makes a quick pass through rockabilly, hip-hop and ska, but when it enters rock it begins a sequence of mosh pits to the sound of new grunge almost non-stop, or rather, until it finds post-punk and melancholy.
Among the highlights are Australians Hatchie (Harriette Pilbeam) and Rinse (Joe Agius), who are best friends, compose together and play in each other’s dreampop band, but the solo debut of the band is especially worth a look. is Iranian-American Rahill (from the New York psychedelic group Habibi), who is Beck’s favorite, as well as several raucous girl bands such as Skating Polly, Body Type and Scowl.
As always, the videos are organized in order of sound affinity in a playlist – to view them on Smart TVs, look for Transmit in the Chrome settings tab or More Tools / Transmit etc in Edge – , with the aim of adapting a sequence that emphasizes the videotape/mixtape impression. Try listening without skipping tracks on YouTube Premium (no commercials).
