Coachella fine for breaking curfew reaches $117,000

Event would have been fined for breaking the allowed schedule on all days of the first weekend

The organization of coachella received a fine of $117 thousand for exceeding the allotted time on all days of your first weekend. Held in the city of Indio, California, the festival, which began last Friday (14), allegedly violated a 2013 agreement between the event and the municipality.

The agreement provides for fines starting at $20k after five minutes exceeding the forecast for each day, with an additional $1,000 for every next minute. Fees will go towards the city’s General Fund, which is used for operating costs, public works, security and services.

The infractions were 25 minutes on Friday (14), 22 minutes on Saturday (15) and 25 minutes again on Sunday (16). This curfew is issued by the police themselves who assist in the organization and security of the festival.

Sunday’s headliner, Frank Ocean, was even interrupted for going over the allowed time – in part due to the one-hour delay in the start of the show. His performance ended up marked by several controversies, including the cancellation of the live broadcast a few hours before the presentation and last minute changes in the set, after the singer himself injured himself during rehearsals.

Despite the delays, several artists impressed during the first weekend of the festival. Between them, Bad Bunny It is BLACKPINKtwo of the headliners, in addition to Blink 182finally reunited on stage.
