Ed Sheeran responds to lawsuit over alleged plagiarism of Marvin Gaye’s track “Thinking Out Loud”
Ed Sheeran declared that he will retire if he is found guilty in a plagiarism lawsuit. The US court is investigating the musician for allegedly copying “Let’s Get It On,” classic by Marvin Gayein his hit “Thinking Out Loud.”
According to NMEthe action was brought by Ed Townsendone of the composers of the 1973 track. The similarities would be in the rhythm and in the ascending sequence of four chords. Sheeran denied allegations.
“If that [for declarado culpado] happens, for me that’s enough, I’ll stop,” he told the court last Monday, 01. “It’s an insult. I’ve dedicated my whole life to being a songwriter and performer for people to try and lessen that.”
According to information from The Associated Press, Irene Farkaslawyer of Sheeranargued that “Thinking Out Loud” is a “sincere song,” written “without copying” Marvin Gaye and features elements heavily used in pop music.
In response, the lawyer Ben Crump stated that Ed Sheeran “confessed” to having copied Gaye when he mixed the two songs in a concert. “If I had done what you are accusing me of doing, I would be an idiot to go on stage in front of 20,000 people. [e fazer isso],” countered the singer.
