“It’s an amazing trajectory for us to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In 1991, four people formed a music group in Los Angeles, an intersection of music and solidarity. We call Rage Against the Machine,” the group stated in a note (via loudwire).

Members highlighted, once again, the political and social positions that move them, including the fight against exploitation, white supremacy and the US war machine:

“(…) A band that was targeted by police organizations that tried to ban us from sold-out arenas for using our voice to free Mumia Al Jamal, Leonard Peltier and other political prisoners.”

“A band that sued the United States for the fascist practice of using our music to torture an innocent man in Guantanamo Bay.

“A band that wrote rebellious songs in an abandoned warehouse, then dethroned the pop monopoly of the X Factre occupying the top spot in the UK charts, claiming the most downloaded song in UK history.”

“A band whose experimentation in fusing punk, rock and hip hop has become a genre of its own.”

Rage Against the Machine ended the note with thanks to the organization for recognizing the “music and mission” of the group. “We are grateful to our passionate fans, to all the talented people who have worked with us, to all the activists, rebels and revolutionaries who inspire our art,” he added.
