The musical ‘It’s Me: Elton’ explores Elton John’s struggle with cocaine


The show that opens in July, in São Paulo, accompanies the tough daily routine of the singer’s rehabilitation

It was August 1990 and the pop star Elton John he was going through a turning point in his daily fight against cocaine. In the rehabilitation work, the British singer-songwriter decides to write a farewell letter to the “Lady in White” and, in a moving confessional story, he goes back to the past and redeems the memories of his childhood and youth.

This is the starting point of the musical It’s me: Elton, which will debut on July 12 at the Teatro Giostri. Written by Peter Ruffo and directed by Daniela Stirbulov, the show will be performed by Ruffo himself (in the role of Elton John), as well as by Gustavo Mazzei and the pianist Livia Cubayachi.

It’s me: Elton explore notable moments and songs in the singer’s trajectory, without necessarily following a chronological order.

VULNERABILITY. These are the moments where she will meet her father Stanley, Uncle Reg, best friend Bernie Taupin and ex-boyfriend and producer John Reid. In these moments, Elton will experience sensations relevant in contemporary society such as freedom, oppression, persistence and vulnerability in the human condition.

The ups and downs of the life and career of Elton, played by Taron Egerton, inspired the film Rocket man (2019).
