During the vigil the sky of 31 December 1947, the singer’s birth date, will be projected.
Rita Lee’s vigil began this Wednesday 10, at 10, at the Planetarium, in Ibirapuera Park. The location was chosen by the singer-songwriter herself, who died on Monday evening, 8, in her home in São Paulo, after a battle against lung cancer discovered in 2021.
Rita was born and lived in São Paulo, almost always in the Vila Mariana neighborhood, and always went to Ibirapuera Park – always with her parents. She called the place the “enchanted forest”.
The singer’s body arrived at the Planetarium around 5am on this rainy Wednesday and some fans were already waiting in line to say goodbye to Rita Lee. Many flower garlands were also seen from early morning.
Among the first family members to arrive at the wake were Virginia, Rita’s sister, and João Lee, the singer’s middle child. In an interview with the journalists present, she highlighted the simplicity of her mother, as well as the dignity and honesty with which she lived her daily life. João also talked about his mother’s sensitivity in understanding people and communicating with the public.
The plastic artist Antonio Peticov, a friend of the singer, also passed through there.
How will the funeral work?
The public enters the Planetarium’s front door, passes through its center, where Rita Lee’s body is in a closed coffin, and exits through the back. On the ceiling, above the coffin, the sky of December 31, 1947, the date of her birth, is projected.
Rita Lee’s vigil began at 10am and will continue until 5pm. Afterwards, her body proceeds to a family-only cremation ceremony.
