The first edition of the festival brought revelations from indie and jazz, as well as big national and international names
O C6 Fest held its first edition last weekend. With concerts in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the event impressed with the balanced line-up of new artists in the country – such as Weyes Blood It is Samara Joy – and established names – such as Kraftwerk It is Underworld. In national programming, a mixture of experience and youth was also present, with positive surprises.
Following the concept of free jazz It’s from Tim FestivalO C6 Fest It had several stages. However, unlike some editions of the events that inspired the newcomer, the presentations were not scattered throughout the city of São Paulo. All shows took place in a single environment, Ibirapuera Park.
Despite the proximity between the stages, it was necessary to buy a separate ticket for each of them (with the exception of the passport, which guaranteed entry to all spaces). The format seems to have confused part of the public, used to the dynamics of festivals like Lollapalooza. The values also made it not uncommon to see empty shows, especially at the Heineken Tent.
The proposal also had positive points, mainly in providing adequate spaces for the eclectic line-up bets. Samara Joyfor example, was able to bring his jazz to the intimate stage of the Ibirapuera Auditorium, while Tim Bernardes made a beautiful tribute to Gal Costa outdoors, with the sunset in the background. The discussion about the occupation of public spaces with paid concerts, however, was present on social networks and around the festival – considering the increase in private events in the park after its concession to a non-state company.
Among some of the musical highlights of the C6 Fest were the English dry cleaning who tried to infect the audience with their counterpoint between the post-punk instrumental and the almost spoken verses of the vocalist Florence Shaw. arlo parks brought her own pains and indie pop with smiles to the stage, and the performative Christine and the Queens was responsible for closing the night of Friday, 19.
Although the artists delivered good performances, the impression is that the shows were too short, even for the headliners. The feeling lasted throughout the weekend, which had concerts lasting just over an hour from veterans of the Kraftwerk (on Saturday the 20th), from the indie folk psychedelia of The War On Drugs and the long-awaited alternative pop diva Weyes Blood (both on Sunday, 21).
Caetano Veloso, in turn, felt like an event apart from the festival. The musician was the main attraction in the external area of the Auditorium on Sunday and brought together a large audience to appreciate his hits and more recent songs performed by his sharp band.
Beside the aforementioned Tim Bernardesfrom the beautiful presentation by the Ouro Negro Orchestra in homage to Zuza Homem de Mello and the show “O ano de 1973” (with Kiko Dinucci It is Juçara Marçal beside Arnaldo Antunes, Giovani Cidreira, jadsa, Linn da Quebrada It is Ruiz Tulip), Caetano showed that the prime spaces of events dominated by international artists can also be occupied by national attractions.
