Freddie Mercury’s Manuscripts Reveal “Bohemian Rhapsody” Had Another Title During Composition

Bohemian Rhapsody” is one of the most daring works of the Queen, which also resulted in a public success. The track, however, almost had a different name, as manuscripts by Freddie Mercury.

The notes are part of a series of items by the vocalist that previously belonged to his best friend and former partner. mercury, mary austinand are being auctioned.

The opening verses were written on a British Midland Airways notebook (bought by British Airways in 2012). According to Ultimate Classic Rock, Freddie tested several different lyrics for the song he had in mind. Drafts of some sentences have the words “fandango,” “Figaro,” “thunderbolts and lighting” and “belladonna.”

In the title, the word “Mongolian” was crossed out and replaced with “Bohemian,” which ended up being chosen for the official name of the song.

Auction

More than 1,500 Items that belonged to Freddie Mercury will be auctioned by mary austin. The objects were left by the artist as part of his inheritance, which also included his home in London, England.

According to Ultimate Classic RockAustin has kept the property virtually intact since 1991, when Freddie he died. Among the auctioned items are handwritten lyrics, his replica crown and costumes used on stage.

Six auctions will be held in August and September, after items show in London, New York, Los Angeles and Hong Kong.
