Why Nickelback Isn’t As Hated Today According To Chad Kroeger

Vocalist and guitarist also sought to find explanations to justify why his band received so much “hate” in recent years

In addition to countless fans and success that translates into millions of records sold and sold-out arena shows, the Nickelbackit also accumulates a notorious legion of haters. There are those who consider the band’s sound “water with too much sugar” and even question the theme of some lyrics, either by appealing to clichés or by an approach considered sexist.

However, this seems to be changing over time. At least that’s what the vocalist and guitarist of the group says, Chad Kroeger.

In an interview with American radio KFMA-FM (via blabbermouth), the musician pointed out that the opinion of the most “sharp” part of the public has started to get a little lighter in recent times. Are the haters finally liking Nickelback? He claims:

“That kind of behavior used to happen a lot. I shouldn’t say ‘used to’ as it definitely lasted for a long time. But I think they’re softening, thankfully. I’m not sure if it’s because we get a lot of love on TikTok or whatever, but for whatever reason the situation has eased. Very good. It’s really nice not to be ‘society’s number one enemy’.”

And why, in the end, the Nickelback Did you have to deal with so many negative reactions? kroeger It has its theories:

“I think it has to do with the fact that our songs are eclectic, ranging from rock to softer, more melodic stuff. I know that ‘Far Away’ was played on country radio and the edited version of ‘Rockstar’ was played on CMT (Country Music Television). When you get that far and the scope is that wide, it’s hard to get rid of the band if you don’t like it. You try to change the radio station three times and you can’t, like: ‘look at them, their rock music on the rock station, pop music plays on the pop station, I can’t even go to the country station they’re there’ . That kind of saturation can piss people off, but at the end of the day, we’re just a band.”

unjustified hate

Even finding some explanations for the “haters”, Chad Kroeger does not conform to disproportionate reactions to the Nickelback. As he himself said, it’s just a band.

“I can’t stand some bands, but I don’t go around on the internet becoming a ‘keyboard warrior’ spewing hate. I just change the channel or put on something I want to hear.”
