Rock in Rio 2022: Gojira replaces Megadeth in the festival’s line-up

Gojira is a French progressive death metal band formed by Joe Duplantier, Mario Duplantier, Christian Andreu and Jean-Michel Labadie.

O world stage of Rock in Rio 2022 suffered a loss on April 12 after the cancellation of megadeth at the iconic festival. However, the event announced last Thursday, 2, as the group was replaced by Gojiraband of progressive death metal French, whose show is scheduled for September 2nd.

Gojira is one of the biggest names in the genre, and will be one of the bands to perform before Iron Maiden, main attraction responsible for closing the night. The French group formed in 1996 is composed of Joe Duplantier (vocals and guitar), Mario Duplantier (drums), Christian Andreu (guitar) and Jean-Michel Labadie (low).

On date, dream theater, Grave and Brazilian Symphony Orchestra will also perform at the world stage.

Rock in Rio 2022

In early 2021, the official profile of Rock in Rio announced the change in the festival’s date, which would initially take place in the months of September and October of this year. Due to the scenario of the covid-19 pandemic in Brazil, the event was postponed to 2022.

The festival takes place over two consecutive weekends. This year’s edition is scheduled for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th of September in the City of Rock at the Olympic Park (or Parque dos Atletas, used as a leisure area and space for major events), located on the edge of Barra da Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro.
