Piqué’s divorce, announced in June 2022, gained a new chapter after information that the former football player had a lover
Shakira seems to have overcome one of the most difficult moments of his life. And it’s not just the divorce from the former football player. Gerard Piquemade official in June 2022 but widely discussed in the months following the revelation that he had cheated on her.

In an interview with People, the singer said she was going through a serious family problem during the separation period. Her father, William Mebarak Chadidaged 91, had suffered a serious fall at home and was admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) when the artist discovered that her husband was being unfaithful.
“My father came to Barcelona to console me after I was consumed with grief over my separation. While he was first communion with Milan (one of Shakira’s children with Piqué), he was seriously injured when he had an accident. Everything happened at once. My house was falling apart. I was finding out from the press that I had been betrayed while my father was in intensive care.”
William is defined by the Colombian star as his “best friend”. So the chance to lose him—even more so at that moment—devastated her.
“I didn’t think I would survive that. The man I loved most in my life, my father, was leaving me when I needed him most. I couldn’t talk to him, couldn’t turn to my friend for the advice I so badly needed.”
The strength of Shakira’s father
Also during the interview, Shakira confirmed that her father is managing to recover, albeit in a “very slow and complicated” way. And she was full of praise for him, defined as a “wonderful and captivating man who surprises everyone with his strength”.
“He has overcome Covid once, two accidents, pneumonia and five surgeries – all at the age of 91, in less than six months. My father is the greatest example of resilience, and my mother is by his side day and night. Both have been a reflection of that dream that didn’t come true for me. But I hope they are models for my children of love: of patience in relationships, of absolute devotion and zest for life.”
Musical response to Piqué
Months after announcing their separation, Shakira released a song with a kind of response to Piqué. “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” is a partnership with the Argentine producer bizarre. It was hugely successful around the world, guaranteeing a series of broken records for the singer.
