Pressive and AXTY promote cultural exchange with single “Hollow”

Launch of the Autumn Music/Universal Music partnership exceeds 100,000 streams

Music is an intermittent art, which is always ready for combinations, alternatives and diverse approaches, with infinite possibilities. While some seek to explore paths within their own core, others expand their territories through partnerships.

the mexican group Pressive is in this hall, performing collabs with names from the most diverse styles. The single “Who am I? Yo” has the hand – and voice – of the Colombian I’m Emiliawhich enriches the song with an electronic pop spectrum, and Zornoza, with hints of rap and R&B. In turn, “reality” was born from the union with the also Mexicans Ray Coyote.

The band, which has been on the road for almost twenty years, has established a solid cultural exchange with the most recent single “Hollow”, an association with Brazilian metalcore band AXTY. The modern approach of both resulted in a song created by different hands, based on material engendered by the Mexicans.

“We planned this song for long months and we had a clear sense of what we wanted. But when we got together, things flowed much better, they are very talented. The vocalist of AXTY, Felipe Hervoso, had an amazing vocal melody, so we started with this curious long-distance collaboration. The affinity was immediate and the result was excellent”, explains the bassist of Pressive, Lorenzo Prats.

“They contacted us through the Baffo Netoof Project 46. He told me that they liked us and were interested in doing a feat. They sent the material and we added our things”, narrates herbal.

dishes explains how this exchange brings freshness to the creation process. “I think it’s exciting, that’s the word. There will always be different perspectives with someone from Mexico and another from Brazil, or from any other part of the world, as we have different cultural backgrounds. Everyone has something to contribute, they want to be heard, and that way there is inspiration from both sides,” he adds.

For herbal, there are converging elements in the works that, even inserted in the metalcore label, work with different particularities. “From what I see, I think we have more similarities. They bring in a little more Latin elements and sing a lot in Spanish. have now launched a [música] with a Spanish rapper, it was two in less than a month. We do what we can and try to mix it up. Metalcore has a lot of that. For example: the motionless in white released a song that seems Michael Jackson with metal, there are others that look like Justin bieber and those who mix it with rap”, he says.

Hollow” can serve as an inspiration for Brazilian and Mexican fans to learn more about the other country. “I see it as a very important movement. We enjoy what they can offer and vice versa. I don’t imagine that someone here in Brazil deliberately turns around and says ‘I’m going to meet the Mexican underground’. Everyone wins, because we can be a gateway for people to have contact with a new music scene”, he analyzes.

According to the guitarist and vocalist of Pressive, Charlie Felix, the lyrics address complicated moments, experienced during the time of seclusion by the pandemic. “We had mixed feelings about feeling overwhelmed, isolated and hopeless. We could be with friends or family, but a lot of problems get into your head. This leads us to want to break these chains and overcome all of this. It’s about loneliness and despair,” she reveals.

The group’s work pace does not reach the limits of oppression, however, the goals are audacious. “We intend to make about fifteen songs, and try to involve as many outside artists as possible, big and small. We prefer to make that leap now rather than focusing on concerts. It’s a strategy to get many people to listen to us, before we start the tour itself”, he says. Lorenzo.

Within this scenario, we will soon be able to check out other alliances. “We will have more partnerships with Brazil, yes. We are focused and very excited about it”, explains Charlie.

However, the work is not restricted to collaborative actions. “We should make an album, just the four of us, next year. But now I think this is the way to go. Knowing and collaborating, we do an immersion and that helps us to grow. We want new surprises, to make another kind of sound. However, we will take one step at a time”, adds Lorenzo.

While the ways of Pressive It is AXTY do not intersect on Brazilian stages, both follow the works. On the Canadian side, herbalwho also plays in the youtuber’s band Lucasuselessnessremains tuned in to the news, enjoying the artistic expressions available on platforms such as TikTok and Spotify.

“I’m a luthier and I’m making new guitars so we can start writing the next album. We take the time to hear what’s going on out there. I ended up distancing myself from the scene, but it’s important to be aware. Now there’s this trend of a heavier sound at the top of the charts. TikTok dictates a lot of what is going on”, he concludes.
