BET Awards Responds to Lil Nas X’s Criticism After Not Being Nominated

BET Awards organization explained why Lil Nas X did not receive nominations at the awards aimed at black artists

Lil Nas X did not hide his dissatisfaction with the BET Awards. This Tuesday, the 7th, the artist released an offensive track, cursing the organization of the BET and reflections on the LGBTQ+ community.

The criticism came shortly after the singer was left out of the 2022 nominations list, even with 3 smash hits and a major highlight in music in the last year, ranking him for the nominations. In response to the song and comments by In thethe award organization released a statement (via The Variety).

“We love Lil Nas X. He was nominated for the award for New artist in 2020 and we proudly showcase your extraordinary talent and creativity on the show twice.”

The institution also explained how the nominees are chosen. “Unfortunately, this year he was not nominated by the BET’s Voting Academywhich is made up of an estimated group of around 500 entertainment professionals in the fields of music, television, film, digital marketing, sports journalism, public relations, influencers and the creative arts.
