Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has spoken out about the recent trend of concertgoers throwing objects at the stage
Corey Taylorvocalist of Slipknot, joined the long list of musicians speaking out against the recent trend of concert-goers throwing objects onstage. Artists like Lil Nas X It is Baby Rexha have been injured in cases involving pitches in their performances.
In an interview for loudwire, corey blamed social media for the occurrences and explained that he feels that some fans participate in the dangerous trend because they no longer have respect for artists.
This is one of the problems with social media. Now, artists are no longer seen as people. Even if they never were, they were still seen as flesh and blood. They were something to worship, but at least they were a person.
Still in the same reasoning, taylor said that the social distance caused by the pandemic brings the feeling of ‘being even further removed from the human experience’, where ‘you are an object and will be treated as such’, showing indignation at how this trend is treated by society.
Everyone just wants to talk about how wrong it is, but no one wants to talk about why. It’s because no one is looking at anyone as a human being anymore… until we bring the human element back, there will be no limits.”
The recent increase in bizarre interactions between fans and artists seems indicative of a post-pandemic shift in the live music industry. But fans crossing the boundaries of their relationships with musicians is nothing new.
Recently, the rapper Lil Nas X was surprised after being hit by a rubber sex toy. Other episodes include P!nkwho received the funeral ashes of a fan’s mother; Baby Rexhawho was hit by a cell phone in the head and Values Maxwho received a slap from a fan during a concert, two days after the incident with rexha.
Taylor prepares the launch of his second solo album, CMFT2, for September 15th and on the next August 25th he will start a tour of the United States, in which he intends to be treated like a human being on stage.
