Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oliver Sykes spoke about the criticism he receives from fans with the group’s sonic transition in recent albums
Oliver Sykesvocalist of Traga-me o horizonte, addressed his relationship with the band’s fans who criticize the sound of their current albums. Although they started out as a deathcore band in the mid-2000s, the group has transitioned into a more mainstream-oriented sound, laden with electronic elements, as on their albums sempiternal (2013) and That’s The Spirit (2015).
In an interview with US radio KFMA, sykes said to believe that the BMTH is ‘one of the last bands still doing heavy music properly,’ so the reviews help musicians stay true to what they believe in deathcore.
“[…] You just need to realize that everything comes from a place of love and don’t let that get you down. It’s very easy for them to piss you off and you’re like, ‘F*ck you,’ but at the end of the day they just love your band and something you did meant so much to them that they just want you to do it again” (via Blabbermouth .Net).
To a certain extent, we can’t be the band that we used to be… Because we’re like one of the last bands that still does heavy music properly. So all those things just keep you in line […]. And at the same time, stay true to yourself. We can’t write music for the fans; it’s impossible.
