Caetano Veloso and Jards Macalé present the album ‘Transa’ at a festival this Sunday
Caetano Veloso revealed that he needed to explain the meaning of reggae during the period of the military dictatorship in Brazil (1964-1985). The artist recalled the story in a video published by Jards Macalé. He says the music “Nine out of ten” caught the attention of the censors because of a specific part of the composition: “Walk down Portobello road to the sound of reggae”.
The censor did not know what reggae was about and even doubted whether fleecy. “He said, ‘Why do I have to believe you? I want proof, because I couldn’t find it in any dictionary,'” said the musician. Watch:
