Bernie Marsden, former Whitesnake guitarist, has died at the age of 72


The musician was one of the leading rock and blues guitarists in the UK

Bernie Marsden, former guitarist of the band Whitesnake, died this Thursday, aged 24, at the age of 72. On social media, the musician’s family reported that he died peacefully next to his wife, Franand their daughters, Charlotte AND Olivia. “Bernie has never lost his passion for music, for writing and recording new songs until the very end,” they said.

David Coverdale, his former bandmate, paid tribute to the musician on his social media after receiving the sad news. “Woke up to the awful news that my old friend and former bandmate Bernie Marsden has passed away,” he wrote.

Marsden was one of the UK’s leading rock and blues guitarists, contributing to the writing of several Whitesnake hits, such as Crazy for your love AND I’m back.

Born in Buckingham in 1951 he began his career with the band UFO in 1972. After going through several groups, he co-founded Whitesnake in London in 1978. Marsden has performed on one EP, five albums and one live album by Whitesnake. During this period he also released two solo albums.
