When Bruno Mars Dive Into Rock On Song With Ed Sheeran

Song brought in Mars as producer, one of the songwriters, guitarist and drummer; music video also had him as one of the directors

Bruno Mars is undeniably one of the greatest artists of our time. With more than 130 million albums sold to date, the artist born in Hawaii, United States, has explored a huge range of musical styles, such as soul, funk, R&B, reggae and disco music.

What many casual listeners don’t know is that this list also includes rock music. And it’s not just a tribute to prince at the Grammy of 2017 or for having brought the Red Hot Chili Peppers to attend your show at super bowl in 2014: he really produced it in style, and with a little help from Ed Sheeran and Chris Stapleton.

In 2019, Sheeran released an album that is now seen as a separate episode in his discography. Its about No.6Collaborations Project, which, as the title points out, consists of collaborations with artists who Ed admire.

Amid the starry list of guests that includes Eminem, 50 Cent, Camila Cabello, Cardi B, HER, Justin Bieber and Skrillex, are the names of Mars and Stapleton — the latter, for those unfamiliar, one of the greatest singers in country/southern rock today.

Ed, Bruno and Chris together they made a song called “Blow”, which came to be made available as a single and won a music video. The involvement of Mars with the initiative was such that, in addition to being one of the singers and composers, he signed the production of the track and co-directed the clip together with Florent Dechard, in addition to having recorded guitar, drums and synthesizer Moog.

In the footage, available below, Sheeran, Mars and Stapleton are replaced by an all-female band. The registration took place in Viper Room, one of the most iconic nightclubs on the Sunset Strip in the United States.

the inspirations

for the album No.6 Collaborations Project as a whole, Ed Sheeran said in an interview to Charlamagne tha God that the inspiration came from “Lady Marmalde”, song that united in 2001 Christina Aguilera with Lil’ Kim, Mýa and Pink. Bruno Mars was one of the first names he thought of, along with Justin bieber, also present on the disk.

Bruno, moreover, he was the first to be contacted by Ed for the initiative. The duo met with Chris Stapleton to compose “Blow” in a basement Nashville. The country idol presented a well-oriented classic rock riff, in a totally Led Zeppelin, that ended up “getting”.

The result left everyone surprised, as no one would have expected the three artists on a track like that — even more so Sheeran, notorious for his mostly acoustic compositions. However, this seems to have opened a new horizon for Edwho recently collaborated with the Traga-me o horizonte and must partner with the Cradle of Filth.
