Tribute to Gal is featured on Sunday (10) at The Town; to Rolling Stone, Marina Sena delivers the favorite moments of the idol’s career
Next Sunday (10), Marina Sena take the stage of The Town with an unprecedented show – a tribute to Gal Costa, which she presents especially for the festival. Or rather: a tribute prepared since she was 15, which she just debuted at the festival.
Marina, who joined Gal for the last studio recording of the idol’s life – a version of “For Lennon and McCartney”, by Clube da Esquina [abaixo] – he told in an interview with Rolling Stone Brazil that honoring the veteran was something she wanted to do since she started singing.
“I’ve always wanted to do, at some point, a show just singing Gal. And then, when The Town came along, I thought along with [produtor e vice presidente artístico do The Town] Zé Ricardo that it would be a beautiful opportunity to do something special, exclusive – a show for Gal Costa”, said Marina.
According to Marina, the admiration arose in her childhood, when she sang tracks from the album Alice’s Cat Smile, from 1993, or “Brasil” incessantly. The desire to make a tribute, however, would come years later, along with the dreamed setlist for the presentation:
“I already have the repertoire ready since I was 15 years old, from the moment I would do the show singing Gal. But I needed it to be special. I needed it to be in a suitable environment to do everything I imagine. time.”
Without disclosing details of the songs she will perform on stage, Marina limits herself to defining her “favorite Gal” among all the phases experienced by the singer in her nearly 60-year career.

“I think it’s Gal Cantar, from the Cantar era”, reflects Marina, on the 1974 album, with tracks like “Barato Total” and “Flor de Maracujá”. “From 1969, maybe. Or Gal a Todo Vapor … but I think the album Cantar para mim is her most beautiful”, she rambles, without making up her mind. And she even bets on one last Gal, quoting “Passarinho”, from the 1973 album India:
“There’s also that ‘sing like a bird in the early morning…’ She was too birdy. She was too birdy”.
