Unreleased Beatles tapes go to auction for up to R$2.4 million

Interviews, unreleased songs and recordings of the band’s rehearsals at John Lennon’s home are among the material that will be auctioned

Some rare and lost Beatles recordings will be auctioned. Information from TMZ states that the group’s vast collection of files Paul McCartneyJohn Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison features rehearsal audio, previously unreleased versions and even an intimate conversation between Yoko Ono and Lennon.

One of the most expensive items is a collection of six tapes featuring rehearsal recordings at Lennon’s home in Kenwood and excerpts from unreleased albums. One valuable thing is the rehearsals they did before recording the album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, with animal sounds for Good Morning Good Morning. You can hear John and Paul McCartney complaining about the heat.

There are also recordings from the unreleased album by George Harrison with the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band; two hour call for primal scream therapy, from Yoko Ono; and an unreleased collaborative album to be released by Yoko and John.

There’s also an intimate 45-minute interview, in which John Lennon questions Yoko’s reasons for staying with him. The recording is from 1969, the year they married.

The collection belongs to an American identified only as Phil, who obtained the tapes five years ago from a man in India. He, in turn, said he obtained the relics from Derek Taylor, the Beatles’ former publicist. Sales can raise between $300,000 and $500,000.

TMZ says the auction will air on the Gotta Have Rock and Roll website and will end on Friday the 22nd. For those interested, the site allows private viewing and listening to the tapes by appointment.
