Chico Buarque will release the single “O Meu Guri” this Friday


The recording precedes the release of the double live album recording the ‘Que Tal Um Samba?’ tour.

The Biscoito Fino record label will release the single this Friday, the 20th My Guri, taken from the hit tour recording How about a samba?by Chico Buarque, which toured the country between the second half of 2022 and the first half of 2023. In total, there were 60 shows in Brazil and five in Portugal.

The single precedes the full recording of the show, which will be released on November 24th on digital platforms, as a double CD and on YouTube. On the track My Guri, Chico sings with the choral company of singer Mônica Salmaso, who was with him on stage throughout the tour, with solo songs and duets. Instrumentalist Bia Paes Leme also sings vocals on the song.

The samba My Gurione of Chico’s biggest hits, was originally released on the album Almanacfrom 1981. The song was also known in recordings by Elza Soares and Beth Carvalho.

Furthermore My Gurithe show which aimed to retrace almost sixty years of the composer’s career – and which may have been Chico’s last great tour – features pieces such as For everyone, The night of the masquerades, No fantasy, The bandit’s cry AND Little job.

The only new or newer song that was part of the show is the one that gave the tour its name, How about a samba?released as a single in 2022.

During the season, Chico also made a small change to the lyrics of Beatrice, a song by him and Edu Lobo, sung on the show by Mônica Salmaso. The composer asked the singer to change the verse ‘I wonder if the actress’s life is divine’ For ‘Who knows if the actress’s destiny is divine’. Beatriz was part of the show’s soundtrack The Great Mystical Circus, from 1983, originally created for the Balé Teatro Guaíra, in Curitiba. The first recording of the song was made by Milton Nascimento.
