The Billboard Music Awards organization has released the nominations for the 2023 edition. And Taylor Swift crowned her great year of commercial success in the lead, with 20 nominations, followed by SZA, Morgan Wallen and The Weekend, who have 17 nominations each.
Taylor Swift, holder of the title of the woman with the most wins in the history of the Billboard Music Awards, with 29 trophies, has a chance to surpass Drake’s overall record, just needing five new wins. However, with Drake in contention with 14 nominations, the awards race promises to be fierce.
Winners are determined based on Billboard chart performance metrics from November 19, 2022 to October 21, 2023.
Produced by Dick Clark Productions, the 2023 BBMAs introduced nine new categories in the current edition, including Best Global K-Pop Artist, K-Pop Tour and Afrobeats Artist, reflecting the increasing globalization and diversification of the music scene.
After a reshuffle for later this year, following the last edition held on May 15, 2022 and hosted by Sean “Diddy” Combs, the BBMAs return to celebrate musical highlights in a revamped format. The awards ceremony, scheduled for November 19, will abandon the traditional television format, opting to reveal the winners via the social networks of Billboard magazine and the BBMAs. The performances, yet to be announced, will follow the same digital format.
