The trailer for “Mamomas Assassinas – The Movie” celebrates the journey and joy of the band

Imagem Filmes has released the highly anticipated trailer for “Mamomas Assassinas – The Film”, which tells the story of Guarulhos’ band that became a national phenomenon in the mid-90s. The preview focuses on the transition of the musical group, which began as a rock band progressive, called Utopia, which after failing reinvented itself as a comedy group and became a phenomenon.

Mamonas Assassinas ended up becoming one of Brazil’s most beloved bands with their infectious joy, but their trajectory was short, cut short by a tragic end – with the death of all its members – in a plane crash while returning from a show , March 2, 1996.

The production aims to show the lives of the five band members before fame, the difficulties at the beginning of their career, the formation of the group and their meteoric success, preferring to focus on the challenges of Guarulhos’ friends who were catapulted to fame rather than broadcast about the tragic accident.

Production and cast

The original project was created by Carlos Lombardi – playwright of such hits as “Uga Uga” (2000) and Kubanacan (2004) – and was written by reporter Carlos Amorim as a miniseries for Record TV. The project ended up being reconfigured for the big screen, directed by Edson Spinello, who has already directed the soap operas “Apocalypse” (2017) and “Rei Davi” (2012), and with the release of the feature film he makes his cinema debut.

For the main cast, the focus was on actors unknown to the general public, but with great experience in musicals. Ruy Brissac, who plays the singer Dinho, takes up the role he played on the stage in “Mamonas, the musical”, which earned him the Bibi Ferreira Award as New Actor.

Adriano Tunes, who plays bassist Samuel Reoli, is a comedian and has worked on the program “Dedé eo Comando Maluco”, on SBT, as well as musicals such as that of presenter Hebe Camargo. Robson Lima, who plays keyboard player Júlio Rasec, is also a theater actor and worked on “Yank – The Musical”. Rhener Freitas, who plays bassist Sérgio Reoli, worked on the Disney Channel series “Bia.”

Singer and presenter Yudi Tamashiro, who joined the cast of the musical Mamonas, was supposed to play guitarist Bento, but was replaced by Alberto Hinomoto, the real character’s nephew. Alberto, who was 17 years old during production, toured with the same guitar that belonged to his uncle, which he used in the band’s shows. The filming marks his screen debut.

Another name debuting as an actress is that of the famous TikToker Fernanda “Fefe” Schneider, 20 years old. She will play Valéria Zoppello, Dinho’s girlfriend, who lost her partner when she was only 24 years old. Fernanda is a phenomenon on TikTok and has more than 16 million followers on the platform.

To top it off, Dinho’s parents are played by Guta Ruiz, who was in the film “Gostosas, Lindas and Sexies”, and Jarbas Homem de Mello, husband of Cláudia Raia and actor in “Roque Santeiro – The Musical”.

“Mamonas Assassinas – The Movie” is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 28.
