IZA Opens Up About Sexualization of Black Women: ‘I Didn’t Look at Myself in the Mirror’

IZA went on a strong rant about the sexualization of women in the age of social media. The singer said this is an even more evident reality when it comes to women of color. The topic was discussed during an interview with the Holofote portal, on FM O Dia.

“I think the sexualization of women is something, unfortunately, very present in our lives, in the lives of all women. And I think that when we talk about black women, there is a hypersexualization that I’ve talked about before. It’s not my responsibility “, he said.

The artist explained that part of her life was affected, but she understood that she was not responsible for the problem present in society: “I was a very shy girl all my life, I didn’t like myself, I didn’t think I was cute , I didn’t look at myself in the mirror. And then I get to the point where I look in the mirror and take a picture and post it because I think I’m beautiful, it’s incredible. At the same time I understand this issue of hypersexualization and I understand that this is a reality, I understand that it is not my responsibility.”

Ultimately, IZA said she has changed her opinion on the matter and doesn’t care what people think of her photos on social media. “I don’t think much when I post. There are days when I wake up and say, ‘Holy shit, my butt is beautiful.’ Then I go there and post something with a bikini that size. And sometimes I say, ‘What a face , today I will post a selfie.” And sometimes, when I don’t feel like posting, I just disappear,” the singer concluded.
