Caetano Veloso and Chico Buarque have joined together in a lawsuit against federal deputy Gilvan da Federal. The singers were accused by the politician of using public money to “smoke marijuana”.
The case occurred on October 25 during a speech in the Chamber of Deputies, where the parliamentarian criticized the federal government for having transferred resources worth 15 billion reais to Culture and lashed out at artists. The funds will be distributed to the sector through the PNB (Aldir Blanc National Policy) until 2027.
“Allocate 15 billion to culture? It’s a joke. 3 billion reals a year. Then they’ll say: ‘No, it’s for the municipalities, it’s for that unknown artist’. No, it’s not like that. A lot of it is for Mr. Caetano Veloso, It is up to Chico Buarque to smoke his marijuana, to live in Miami, in the villas where he lives,” Gilvan declared at the time from Federal.
At another point Gilvan says the transfer of cultural incentive funds is a “joke.” The politician also once again accused the singers of using public resources to illegally purchase drugs: “3 billion reais a year for culture, for Caetano Veloso, for Chico Buarque, for Daniela Mercury. It’s a joke. For you who you made the L, that’s it, money for Culture, for these millionaires to smoke marijuana.”
Caetano Veloso and Chico Buarque have filed a lawsuit against Gilvan from Federal, who will answer for defamatory information. After the trial, the deputy spoke about the situation and said he was not afraid: “You can report me! I am not afraid and I don’t even cower in front of anyone! I will always expose the lies of this left who only wants to drain the wealth of our country “he shouted.
