Ultraje a Rigor musicians ask fans for help to pay for Mingau’s treatment

Isabella Aglio, daughter of Mingau, bassist of Ultraje a Rigor, has opened a fund to help pay for the treatment of her father, who was shot in the head in September, in the municipality of Paraty, on the southern coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro. Called “Juntos Pelo Mingau”, the initiative targets the high costs of the clinical condition faced by the artist.

The musicians of Ultraje a Rigor got involved and used their social networks to ask their fans and followers for help.

“Many of you will already know the beginning of this story: on September 2nd Mingau was returning to São Paulo when, while passing through Paraty, he was shot in the head. In serious condition and transferred to the capital São Paulo, he had to face two important surgeries in a matter of days,” reads a text shared by guitarist Marcos Kleine and drummer Bacalhau. “His life was in the balance. The emotion was widespread. Family, friends, fans and even those who didn’t even know the bassist of Ultraje a Rigor, a boy with an easy smile and a heart of gold, began to rejoice for the his healing.”

“After two months in intensive care, he is ready to go to rehabilitation. He has evolved a lot in that period, and he still has a lot to progress, to be able to go back to doing what he loves most: playing, playing…And staying at contact with nature”, continued the musicians.

“Now is also the time to deal with the team of neurologists who have been following him since the surgery. Since the family members cannot cover all the expenses not covered by the health plan, we have opened a fundraiser for anyone who can collaborate by building a happy ending to this story,” they added.

There is not much information on the current state of Mingau. The last medical report released was a month ago, when the hospital reported that he was able to communicate and interact through “eye movement and reaction to stimuli.”

Roger Moreira, the band’s lead singer, provided an update this Saturday (11/11) when he also released the campaign. “For those who ask me, he is fine and awake. He breathes on his own. He still has to put a prosthetic on his head, he has lost the bones in his skull. He still doesn’t speak and it is impossible to predict when this will happen,” he explained.

Porridge was killed in his car, on the eve of his 56th birthday. The bullet hit the left side of the head, passed through the brain and exited. The crime took place in the Ilha das Cobras neighborhood, in Paraty, a city on the Costa Verde of Rio de Janeiro. According to the statement of the friend who was with him at the time, they had withdrawn R$300 to buy a snack when the vehicle was the target of the shots.
