‘Hip hop is in a terrible situation,’ says Lil Yachty

Lil Yachty took the opportunity to highlight a rapper who does unique work in the industry: JID

Hip hop was one of the musical genres that grew the most in recent years and had impressive numbers. However, according Lil Yachty, this style “is in a terrible situation right now.” According to the rapper, there are no major innovations anymore.

During participation in the event Musicians on Musicianscarried out by Rolling Stone USA (via NME), in Brooklyn, USA, Yachty commented on how today’s rappers are afraid to take artistic risks, whether in sound or lyrics.

“Hip-hop is in a terrible place. The state of hip-hop right now is a lot of imitation. There’s a lot of fast, low-quality music being released,” he said. “It’s a lot less about taking risks, there’s a lot less originality… people are very safe now. Everyone is so safe. I’d rather take a risk than have defeat.”

However, for Lil Yachtythere is a rapper who does a great job: JID. “I love him. JID is such a beautiful person,” he said. “He has the spirit of a true black Atlantan and is such a good and kind person and has always embraced me with open arms, so I have received nothing but respect for JID. I’ve never heard a bad verse from him.”

Furthermore, he also talked about the great Let’s Start Herefifth studio album in his career Lil Yachty. The work was well received by the public and critics, but was not recognized in the Grammys 2024whose nominations came out last Friday, the 10th.

“I worked really hard from start to finish. I just don’t know. I handled it a lot better than I thought I would,” he said. “Like I thought I was going to be throwing s*** like crazy, but I didn’t care. When it came out, honestly 0.5 seconds later, I erased it from my brain.”

It’s crazy because for the last eight months I’ve been thinking about it, but when it came out I was like, ‘OK’ because at the end of the day it’s what you love. Creating that album built a huge level of confidence for me. And I loved my artistic talent again on another level and I became very confident in myself and knowing that this was the starting point for what I can do and what I will do.
