“An hour and a half before the show, a strong wind hit the stage structure, but there was no one in the area. Luckily everyone is fine,” Marisa Monte informed on her Instagram. Some internet users even recorded images of the state of the stage after the storm on social media.

Shows postponed in Niterói

The shows would be part of celebrations for the 450th anniversary of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The program of the Praia de Icaraí stage included the performance of DJ Mam (7pm) and Marisa Monte (9pm) on Saturday 18th, and on the 19th, a show by Dalto, Marcos Sabino and Biafra (7pm) and another joint show between the Red Baron and the Detonauts (9pm).

In general there has been no announcement with changes for the shows of Teresa Cristina, on November 25th (6pm) and Alcione, on November 26th (6pm).

In an official note, the municipality of Niterói confirmed the collapse of the stage structure, attributing the fact to “strong winds and a thunderstorm”. “At the first signs of strong winds, the evacuation plan was put into action and there were no more people on site when the structure collapsed. There were no injuries.”

The institution also specifies that the postponement of the shows of Marisa Monte, Barão Bermelho and Detonautas “aims to guarantee the safety of the public and the artists”. “Detailed information on the new date and possible procedures will be released soon.”
