King Charles III honors BLACKPINK with medals of the Order of the British Empire

The four members of the K-Pop group BLACKPINK received this Wednesday (22/11) the title of honorary members of the Order of the British Empire, from King Charles III. Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa were honored with medals of the Order at Buckingham Palace, becoming the first non-British musical artists to receive the honour.

They were honored to be official ambassadors and supporters of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow.

They are currently in England as special guests of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeo and First Lady Kim Kun-hee during the South Korean government’s state visit to the country.

King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla hosted a luxurious state banquet for the South Korean delegation on Tuesday (11/21), which was also attended by the four members of BLACKPINK. During his speech, the monarch wanted to mention idols. “I congratulate Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rosé – better known collectively as BLACKPINK – for their role in bringing the message of environmental sustainability to a global audience. I cannot help but admire the way they are able to prioritize these vital issues , as well as being global superstars.”

South Korea’s president, Yoon Suk-yeol, responded: “If the UK has the Beatles, Queen, Harry Potter and David Beckham, Korea has BLACKPINK…”
