Singer Taylor Swift has rejected an offer of $100 million (around R$500 million) to promote cryptocurrency brokerage FXT. The information was provided by attorney Adam Moskowitz, who is known for suing famous people who advertised the company.
On The Scoop podcast, Moskowitz said the singer was the only artist to turn down the broker’s million-dollar offer. Gisele Bündchen, Tom Brady, Shaquille O’Neal and Larry David are among the celebrities who have accepted the proposal.
“If you promote an unregistered title to gain financial advantage, you are liable for all termination damages,” the lawyer said of the group of artists named in a $5 billion lawsuit against FXT.
Moskowitz further explained that Taylor Swift rejected the proposal after asking whether the securities sold by the broker were registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
It is also important to remember that the singer’s father has been working in the financial market for 40 years. He began his career as a financial advisor for the American bank Merrill Lynch in the 1980s and was responsible for founding the company Swift Group, which provides wealth management consultancy.
More details
FXT filed for bankruptcy in November 2022 after admitting it was experiencing a liquidity crisis. The O Estado de S. Paulo newspaper reported that the company’s former CEO, Sam Bankman-Fried, was charged with fraud for allegedly misappropriating customer funds.
Despite the lawyer’s statements, those involved in the negotiation claim that Taylor Swift would have accepted the million dollar proposal. The information was released by CNN in July this year. The money would have served as sponsorship for “The Eras Tour”, but the deal did not materialize due to the alleged decline of the brokerage.
Taylor Swift began performing in Brazil last week. The singer will perform again in Sao Paulo on November 24, 25 and 26.
