Dolly Parton is the biggest star in the country. But at almost 80 years old she has finally surrendered to rock. She was honored in the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame. And she recorded an album full of appearances by big stars of the genre, “Rockstar”.
The album is a surprise in Dolly’s career. She is celebrated not only in a style that was never hers, but also by generations who did not know her.
Not everyone knows that in addition to being a singer, Dolly is a great songwriter, with hundreds of songs written by her. Lots of country hits and perhaps the most popular ballad of all time, “I’ll Always Love You”, performed by Whitney Houston.
Dolly proved she’s taking her new rock ‘n’ roll phase seriously this week, performing in a cheerleading uniform during halftime of a Dallas Cowboys football game.
See my comment on the new album and Dolly’s phase and how she is breaking age and image barriers in rock.
