Olivia Rodrigo talks about “pressure to please everyone” at the launch of her second album

The singer says she felt a lot of pressure, given that her first album was a huge success

Recently Olivia Rodrigo was honored at the event Variety Hitmakers, with the Storyteller of the Year award. In his acceptance speech, Rodrigo talked about the composition of his new song ‘Can’t Catch Me Now’, which she wrote for the new soundtrack of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Birds and Snakes .

“Telling stories through songwriting has been my favorite thing for as long as I can remember […] I write to discover how I feel, to overcome my emotions, and to celebrate and honor times in my life.”

“I also had the opportunity to write a song for the new ‘Hunger Games’ movie recently and it taught me how much I also love writing songs from someone else’s point of view and how fun and collaborative it can be.”

Olivia also opens up a little about his creative process “wasn’t always easy” and explains that the album ‘Guts‘, his second studio album, was the most complex in this aspect.

“I had so many voices in my head and I felt a lot of pressure to please everyone with the music I was making […] I found that simply showing up to create something every day, even if I didn’t feel terribly inspired, was what took me out of that funk and made me start to really be excited about the music I was making,” said the singer.
