Pocah looked to singer Joelma for inspiration before releasing one of the EP’s four singles “A Braba é Ela 2”. The singer told Quem magazine the details of the new project which revives classic funk and other genres, such as piseiro.
In the interview published this Tuesday (12/5), Pocah explained that her musical roots are varied and that the experience brought back part of her origins: “It was incredible. I’m very eclectic musically,” she commented .
“I already had a rock band as a teenager, but I also listened to Joelma. I’ve always been like that. Being able to show this to the public in a more concrete way, with ‘Loba’, a very tasty piseiro song, is something I was already looking forward to and which I intend to explore further in the future. It shows this versatility more and more, but without leaving aside the funk, of course.”
The singer also added that Joelma was one of the strong influences for the song “Loba”, where Pocah sings about being sensual and throwing strong provocations. However, the references seem limited to just the beats. “I was inspired by her, who is a big diva in our country, and the main artists of the North and Northeast, a very talented group that I listened to this year like Matheus Fernandes and Calcinha Preta,” he said.
Braba is you
The five-track album is notable for “A Braba é Ela,” written by the singer in 2017, when she was still known as MC Pocahontas. The title song tells a little more about the funk singer’s life. “This song reminds me of when I started singing at dances, it reminds me of that time, the passion for music and the feeling of a dream come true,” Pocah explained to Metrópoles.
