Claudia Leitte is accused of plagiarism by Bea Duarte, who reacts: “Yes, there are similarities”

Claudia Leitte’s recent participation in “The Voice Brasil”, broadcast on Thursday (12/7) on Globo, sparked controversy on social media. After the program, where she presented the new song “Liquitiqui”, the artist was accused of plagiarism. Fans of independent singer and former “Canta Comigo Teen” judge Bea Duarte pointed out similarities between “Liquitiqui” and Bea’s song “Lilith.”

Bea herself recorded a video on Instagram, saying that she woke up this Friday (12/8) with many people tagging her name and talking about Claudia’s song. She then compared the two songs, showing the strong similarity between them. Although she said she was afraid to take a stand on the topic, she also provided release dates to reinforce her belief that “Liquitiqui” is too similar to “Lilith.”

“Calm down, Milk fans. You also don’t need to attack me just because there are similarities. I don’t even know how to absorb this information yet and I’m only speaking out because the topic has become a battleground,” he commented.

Bea then remembered that the song was a remix by another artist and that there were already people saying that, in fact, she had plagiarized the original track. Therefore, he explained that his song is from 2021 while the original recording of “Liki Tiki”, by the band Kes (from Trinidad and Tobago), is from 2022 – adding that the band “clearly knows Brazil, as they are doing a remix with Claudia Leitte”.

“I still don’t know what to think about it and I’m in a state of mind,” he commented. “I’m afraid to take a stand and say something at this point in the championship,” she added, concluding the video with a homemade “remix” that combines the two songs.

Claudia Leitte’s positioning

Claudia Leitte’s team also reacted to the controversy. The allegations were addressed in a statement released to the press.

According to the press office, “Liquitiqui” has “an absolutely different melodic construction and composition”, discarding accusations of similarity to Bea Duarte’s music.

“The singer’s consultant informs that the song ‘Liquitiqui’ has an absolutely different melodic construction and composition, which does not justify the unfounded accusation of plagiarism”, reads the brief note.
