Why “Matanza Ritual”?
When the idea of creating the Matanza Ritual emerged, Jimmy London considered the possibility of it never leaving the role. “I’m a more isolated guy. I arrive at my show, I stay there in my dressing room, in my room, I do my show, then I leave. I’ve never been one to socialize at a festival and make lots of friends”, he reflected. However, the singer’s introversion didn’t stop him from joining a team of national rock stars: the bassist Felipe Andreoli (Angra)the guitarist Antônio Araújo (Korzus) and the drummer Amílcar Christofáro (Torture Squad).
Second Londonthe name given to the band created in 2019 refers to the ritual behind the shows: “I think the show Matanza It has a lot to do with ritual. The crowd gets ready, goes to the bar, listens to certain sounds, enters the mental state of vomiting out their frustrations, of vomiting out their demons, you know? I also prepare. I have a certain ritual. We go on stage, the show starts one way, goes through certain places, and always ends another way.”
Despite having singles released since 2020, the Ritual hasn’t released his first album yet. The vocalist, however, assured, in an interview with Rolling Stone Brazilthat this moment is getting closer and it will be important to define more clearly what the Matanza Ritual.
While searching for group identity, Jimmy, Philip, Antonio It is Hamilcar celebrate the discography of Matanza in live performances. “F*ck, they are good things, good things have to be valued, they have to be maintained if possible”, he argued London. “They don’t deserve to die because human beings decided. Art is more important than human beings. I think these songs belong to me in many different ways.”
End of Matanza
London added that the Matanza it ended “on terrible terms”, but he made “a point of not spreading the shit”. “I think fans of Matanza didn’t deserve one spread shit, they didn’t deserve to have a sour taste for the band”, he said. Jimmy further revealed that he was contacted by a member of Matanza Inc: “After a while I even received a call. It was a good call, saying several things that surprised me.”
In 2021, the artist stated in an interview with Collision Podcast who considered the band “like work”. “A band that works almost without a contractor is a very rare reality in the world, even more so in Brazil, and I managed to develop this mentality within the Matanzato understand that a band doesn’t do much more than write music”, he told Rolling Stone Brazil.

And I conveyed this idea to the Matanza Ritual. We have had excellent work results. I think that answers itself. It seems that, within this reasoning, something I was doing inside [no Matanza] it was working.
Time was, for Jimmya factor that helped him overcome the end of Matanza: “I’m getting a little older and I’m managing to put the problem aside.”
This was a problem I put aside. He kind of sorted himself out, and everything is great the way things are at the moment. For me, I couldn’t be more comfortable.
