Selena Gomez reflected on the sexualization she suffered throughout her career and choices she currently regrets

Selena Gomez revealed that he regrets the cover of the revival (2015), for being very sexy. In the photo that prints the disc, the singer and actress appears semi-naked, although no intimate part is exposed, Gomez revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that it wasn’t a choice that made her happy.

Gomez considered these career situations “unfair” and recalled the decision to do a photo shoot in which she felt extremely sexualized. “I actually did an album cover that I’m really ashamed to have done. I had to work through these feelings because I realized they were related to something deeper that was going on. And it was a choice I wasn’t necessarily happy to have made,” she admitted.

The singer added, saying that “she is not an overly sexual person.” “Sometimes I like to feel sexy,” she explained. “But that doesn’t mean it’s something for others. It might just be for me.”

This wasn’t the first time Gomez commented on the sexualization he suffered in adolescence. In an interview with sheexemplified how the song “Come & Get” does not truly represent it: “This is not my personality. The lyrics, ‘when you’re ready, come and get me.’ I would never say that!”

The song was released in 2013 when Gomez was 20 years old. Now, at 29, the singer has admitted: “For a while, I felt like an object. I felt disgusting for a long time.” Even on later records, she still hadn’t found herself. “I did things that really weren’t me. There was this pressure to look more grown up on my album, revival. I felt like I needed to show more skin… I don’t think I’m that person,” he revealed to Allure in 2020.
